The other partof the globalization debate is the Fairness doctrine. That is, Fair Trade. When China allows rampant pirating and counterfeiting of IPR yet adamantly wants onesided trading rights to the US; when China and Japan keep their currentcy artifically low to keep their export machines flowing, there are fairness issues. When the US system is transparent but the other country's trade appartus is anything understandable, we are being taken advantage of.
What can we do? I believe in Tit for Tat. If china continues to be lax with protecting IPR, a major source of US exports, then penalties need to be applied to their products coming to the US. That is the only recourse they understand. If they keep their currency weak, we need to apply a import tax equivalent to the premum that would ordinary be charged. If they will not accept some US goods due to archaic or insular trade policies, we need to apply similar tactics to goods being exported to the US. Until we learn to play hardball, we will continue to be taken advantage of by these countries. I am tired of it aren't you? It only hurts us in the long run.
